DriftNotes (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our note-taking application with AI processing capabilities collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application.

Information We Collect#

We do not collect any information whatsoever. All data remains exclusively on your device and never reaches us through servers or any other means.

Information That Stays Local on Your Device (Never Sent to Us)#

The following information is processed and stored entirely on your device. None of this data is collected by us, sent to our servers, or accessible to us in any way:

Notes Content: Text content of notes you create within the application
User Settings: Preferences and configuration settings you choose
API Keys: Optional third-party AI service API keys you provide for enhanced processing capabilities
Application Data: Note metadata (creation dates, processing status), tags, categories, and user preferences

What We Actually Collect#

Nothing. We have no servers, no analytics, no data collection of any kind. Your data never leaves your device except when you choose to send notes to third-party AI services for processing.

How Your Information is Used (All Locally on Your Device)#

Since we don’t collect any information, we don’t use your information. All processing happens locally on your device.

Local Processing (On Your Device Only)#

Note Analysis: Your notes are processed locally on your device to extract keywords, categorize content, and determine priority levels
Data Organization: Information is used locally to organize your notes using the Eisenhower Matrix (urgent/important categorization)
Search and Discovery: Content is indexed locally on your device to enable fast search and retrieval

AI Processing (Your Device to Third-Party AI Services)#

Third-Party AI Services: When you choose to use AI features, your note content is sent directly from your device to third-party AI services (such as OpenRouter) for enhanced analysis
Default API Keys: If you don’t provide your own API keys, the app uses our default API keys to facilitate this direct connection between your device and the AI services
No Intermediary: We do not receive, process, or store any of the data sent to AI services - it goes directly from your device to the AI provider
Processing Scope: AI processing includes keyword extraction, content categorization, priority assessment, and tag generation

Data Storage and Security#

Local Storage#

Device-Only Storage: All your notes and personal data are stored locally on your device using SQLite database
No Cloud Sync: We do not automatically sync your data to cloud services
Data Persistence: Your data remains on your device until you delete the app or manually delete content

Security Measures#

Encryption: Sensitive data is protected using industry-standard encryption methods
Access Controls: Only the DriftNotes application can access its data storage
Secure Transmission: When communicating with AI services, data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS)

Third-Party Services#

AI Processing Services#

Service Providers: We use OpenRouter and potentially other AI service providers for note processing
Data Sharing: When using AI processing features, your note content is sent directly from your device to these third-party AI services for analysis
Important Note: These AI services may collect and process your note content according to their own privacy policies
Third-Party Policies: OpenRouter and other AI services have their own privacy policies that govern their use of your data
User Control: You can choose to provide your own API keys for these services or disable AI processing entirely
No Server Involvement: We do not receive, store, or have access to the data sent to AI services - it goes directly from your device to the AI provider

No Other Third Parties#

We do not share your personal information with advertising networks, analytics companies, or other third parties
We do not sell your personal information to third parties
We have no servers that collect or store your data

Your Rights and Choices#

Data Control#

Deletion: You can delete individual notes or all your data by uninstalling the application
API Key Management: You can add, remove, or modify your third-party API keys at any time
Processing Control: You can choose whether to enable AI processing features

Data Portability#

Export: You may be able to export your notes content (specific export features depend on app capabilities)
Local Access: Since data is stored locally, you maintain direct control over your information

Data Retention#

Local Storage Only: Your notes and data remain exclusively on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app
No Server Storage: We do not have servers that store your data, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete
Third-Party AI Services: Any data retention by AI services (like OpenRouter) is governed by their own policies - we have no control over or access to this data

Children’s Privacy#

Our application is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Privacy Policy#

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will:

Update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy
Notify users of material changes through the application or other appropriate means

Keyword Extraction: AI analysis to identify important terms and concepts
Content Categorization: Automatic tagging and classification of note content
Priority Assessment: Analysis to determine urgency and importance levels
Search Indexing: Local indexing for fast content retrieval

Data Flows#

Input: You create or modify notes within the application
Local Storage: Content is immediately stored in local SQLite database
AI Processing: Content is sent to AI services for analysis (if enabled)
